Dr. Freitas is treating patients at Orchard Park & Amherst Locations
UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Western New York’s largest orthopaedic practice, has added Michael S. Freitas, MD, MSPT to its local team of physicians. Dr. Freitas began work at the practice in August 2014. He is a physician specializing in Primary Care Sports Medicine and Concussion Management Care.
Dr. Freitas is a board-certified (in sports medicine and family medicine) and fellowship-trained physician who is also a licensed physical therapist, holding a Master’s Degree in physical therapy from Northeastern University. In addition, he is an associate professor of clinical orthopaedics at the University at Buffalo’s School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, and a clinical assistant professor with the department of family medicine at UBMD Physicians’ Group.
He is the Team Physician for the Western New York Flash soccer franchise (NWSL) and Assistant Team Physician for the University at Buffalo Athletic Program.
Bringing a wealth of training and experience to UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, Dr. Freitas’ expertise lies in all areas of sports medicine, including sports injuries, concussion/post-concussion syndrome, shoulder/elbow, spinal cord injuries, back/neck, acute injury care, diagnostic ultrasound examination, overuse/repetitive injuries and office-based sports medicine procedures. He also specializes in injection therapies, including PRP and percutaneous needle tenotomy.
Beginning in August, Dr. Freitas has been seeing patients at UBMD Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine offices, including 5959 Big Tree Road in Orchard Park and 4949 Harlem Road in Amherst. He also provides expertise and care at the renowned UB Concussion Management Clinic in Buffalo.
Dr. Freitas graduated with his Medical Doctorate from the University at Buffalo School of Medicine. He then completed his Residency training in Family Medicine at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital and followed this with a Fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine at the University at Buffalo’s Department of Orthopaedics.
