Rehabilitation Medicine Services
Rehabilitation physicians, or physiatrists, are medical doctors who have completed training in the medical specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R). They are nerve, muscle and bone experts who treat injuries or illnesses that affect how you move. The focus of rehabilitation medicine is the development of a comprehensive program for putting the pieces of a person’s life back together after injury or disease.
Conditions commonly treated by physiatrists include neck and back pain, herniated disc, sports injuries, industrial and work injuries, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, head trauma (concussion/brain injury/stroke), spinal cord injury, osteoarthritis, myofascial pain and chronic pain management.
Common procedures include EMG studies, botox injections (after stroke, head trauma, spinal cord injury and cervical dystonia), and prolotherapy (AKA regenerative injection therapy).
